The Traditional Anniversary List dates back to as early as the mid-1800s. This list included gifts for the first 15 years of marriage as well as a gift for every 5 years after that. The more contemporary lists of today include specific gifts for each year up to the 25th Anniversary. The Traditional list was mainly filled with items helpful to beginning and maintaining a home together. Today people start out with many more of these items, and so we give gifts reflecting a more affluent and changing society. One indication of this is the Diamond appearing earlier and more frequently on the Modern List. |
